12/12/2023 0 Comments A quick snip ffxivAlso you have three combos, so you have to make choices about maintaining debuff/buff/threat all the time.which is also pretty cool.Įndgame: Tanking raids as a WAR requires you to either have really good reaction times (see: low latency) or a thorough knowledge of the fight (or both!). Leveling as a WAR is way more fun than as a PLD. You will run out of TP constantly and it's kind of a sign you're a baddie, but it's also super-fun.so make your own choices!īut seriously. Leveling: Post level 14 (so pretty much all dungeons and most trials) WAR is a blast to level because you can spam overpower and never lose aggro. Also WAR out of class choices are actually interesting/useful. Overpower is "more fun" than Flash and there's a lot more choices moment to moment. Most of the FC tanks are WARs because, I'd assume, the spec does "feel" more visceral. It used to be, for lack of a nice term, kind of hot garbage. It is important to know that WAR was basically completely redesigned around patch 2.1 or so. Also, for the next 3 weeks, you only have one combo.so you can kind of go into robot mode and watch mechanics. Threat is a ton easier these days so long as you learn to love Flash for groups.Įnd-Game: I prefer PLD for learning raid fights simply because the mitigation toolset is very "fire and forget" off the global cooldown. Mid 30-40ish kind of sucks because you won't have Shield Oath yet, but otherwise it's not too bad. Leveling: If you can embrace Flash-spam for snap threat, then PLD leveling isn't too bad. PLD crossclass skills are pretty lame except stoneskin, which is kind of useful on like 2 fights. It's a very good toolset and I enjoy being a PLD for endgame raids as outlined below. The toolset has a ton of flexibility in how you mitigate, and said mitigation is off the global cooldown. You also can't get away with Spiritbonding all your gear for money the way healers/dps can You'll want the best armour you can get your hands on (higher def values) to survive tanking. Gear is waaay more important when leveling. FFXIV has a pretty good community though, so you can say "I'm new here" and get tips usually You'll be expected to know any fights that aren't brand new. Very friendly community, so it's not all that intimidating You'll get a ton of commendations if you're not a jerk I also really like tanking, so there's that to it. Tanking brings you a big world of instant ques and roulette bonuses. People talk about pros/cons but speaking as someone who alternates pretty much on a whim, I haven't found anything where I felt like I absolutely *had* to be a PLD or a WAR. WAR *needs* Flash as a x-class for low level ques (pre-14 or so when you get overpower) and you get Provoke at 22īoth tanks are pretty equal. If you're serious about tanking, level Gladiator/Paladin until level 22 first. :-)Īs to how each class plays.well here we go! And yeah, the ability to do that all on one character is basically why I play this game. I'm one of the people who has everything at 50 (including crafting/gathering). I am very happy that I saved tank for 3rd because at that point I knew most dungeons well enough to know what to do. Parties depend on the tank to lead them thru dungeons, so it can be a bit stressful when you are not sure where to go or what to do. I leveled WAR to 50 third and it was by far my favorite class to level, but like all tank jobs there is a lot of responsibility. I do not heal end game content so I am not help there, but from what I have seen it is nothing short of challenging. Also, since healers are almost always in need you duty finder queues pop pretty much instantly (this is not the case for DPS classes), but that may change come expansion. This takes out the "OMG what do I do and where do I go" stress. At lower levels you pretty much just need to follow the party, keep everyone alive and use dps spells if you can/feel like it. I think that WHM is one of the best classes to level first. Every class has to do this to a point, but it is super crucial for BLMs as we have the lowest HP pool and the highest movement restrictions. So you have to strategically plan out when to move, where to move and whether or not you can get out that one last cast before getting clobbered. ![]() You can achieve high DPS output provided you keep movement to a minimum because BLMs cant cast most spell while moving. The most challenging/fun part is that everything at high level is like learning a choreographed dance for BLM. I started with BLM and it is currently my main class. There are several members in our guild that have all classes to 50, so definitely doable. Luckily, this game doesn't lock you into one class and leveling goes so quick at low levels you can try them all.
